REF: IF YOU KNOW SO MUCH WHY DON’T YOU DO SO MUCH?- THE DANGEROUS AND UNPRODUCTIVE EFFECT OF KNOWLEDGE
Choolwe this is another conversation with self so be as frank as you can be with yourself.
Choolwe remember the day you witnessed a church elder rebuke a certain man in church who felt so knowledgeable yet there was one unique unpleasant thing about his knowledge; IT ONLY MANIFESTED IN NONCONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
The elder who was the administrator one day could not take this brother’s attitude. He had really had enough of this knowledgeable brother’s attitude just like many of us really had taken too much already. The elder stood and said “BROTHER IF YOU KNOW SO ,MUCH WHY DON’T YOU JUST DO AS MUCH SO WE LEARN FROM YOUR RESULTS?”
Choolwe that question from the elder is one you must always ask yourself before you find yourself ever criticizing others who are making effort. Choolwe don’t ever be like those people who demonstrate a sense of monopoly of knowledge and wisdom that to them no Pastor is doing anything good , no church is correct except their ideal THEORETICAL one, no motivational speaker is worth applauding, to them there is always something everyone WHO IS DOING SOMETHING is not really doing. Choolwe for these types of people the Zambian entrepreneur is not doing anything ..or worse when they criticize the Zambian politician; it is as if all are just these evil greedy people. Choolwe this is the kind that even at work they never come to the party to contribute to organisational success but they are chairpersons of corridor gossip about how the management of this company is doing things wrongly and how “proper” organisations do things.
Choolwe then today ask yourself this question; IS BEING KNOWLEDGEABLE ENOUGH? I think the answer is no. In fact it is becoming clear that an expedition to collect knowledge without acquiring the rest of the key mannerisms and wisdom for its contextual application is dangerous. In fact Choolwe if you look around, you can tell something about these “knowledgeable” people ; they fall in a class you yourself Choolwe call the class of WASTED BRILLIANCE. This is so because instead of using their vast knowledge and brilliance to produce results, it only shows up in nonconstructive criticism. They only use it to show what wrongs person A or B is doing without their own proto-type of results to show as the correct version of how things should be done. The funny part about them is that they are experts of so many fields not by results but by theory. And the subtle reality about them is that they can be convincing yet at personal level lead a very sad life void of results. Choolwe this is not about them but about you training yourself how to correctly use knowledge. At the end of the day it is about removing personal logs and not specs in other people’s eyes.
Choolwe I used to think knowledge is power but I also noticed that mishandled knowledge is DANGER. See what the bible says below and you will realize that knowing too much without learning the wisdom for CORRECT USAGE of knowledge is a danger to the knower.
“Now about food sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge [concerning this]. Knowledge [alone] makes [people self-righteously] arrogant, but love [that unselfishly seeks the best for others] builds up and encourages others to grow [in wisdom]’- 1 Corinthians 8:1
Oh Choolwe thou son of predestination listen to this passage and learn again the higher level beyond knowledge. Have you seen that sobering reality that KNOWLEDGE ALONE MAKES PEOPLE SELF RIGHTEOUS AND ARROGANT? Choolwe these type of people who collect knowledge without other mannerisms for the context of application (love being the best context) are actually deceived that they are brilliant when they are actually operating in SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS AND ARROGANCE. And oh yes it is arrogance because borrowing that elder’s questions IF YOU KNOW SO MUCH WHY DON’T YOU DO SO MUCH? How come their brilliance has never built an example to help others learn from? Choolwe at this stage you can actually feel sorry for them because they fast degenerate into social critics who grow old, days finish and they soon find they never achieved anything and wasted their days criticizing everyone using their so called knowledge. Choolwe sometimes there is no business , church, career success for these people to show for their much knowledge and talking yet they will use very piercing words against those that have applied their little knowledge. Choolwe this is partly why the average marketeer at Soweto is more financially stable than the average graduate. Sometimes graduates are puffed up by their knowledge. This for another day. Choolwe I remind you again, that this is not about them but protecting yourself from assuming that JUST BECAUSE YOU KNOW SO MUCH THEN OF NECESSITY YOU ARE ALREADY DOING SO MUCH. Choolwe you are leader of a very big ministry and you have seen by experience how sometimes the most productive who actually produce the results needed are those who sometimes know little but they are diligent in applying the little they know.
Choolwe within that passage of scripture you also see what the best use of knowledge is. It is to use it IN THE CONTEXT OF LOVE. Yes because that love uses knowledge to seek the best for others, builds up and encourages others to grow in wisdom.
I Choolwe then returned and concluded that knowledge is good but mere knowledge puffs up. I also then concluded that acquiring knowledge WITHOUT ACQUIRING THE MANNERS FOR CREATING THE ATMOSPHERE IN WHICH TO APPLY IT IS DANGEROUS.
I also returned and resolved that I WILL HONOR A KNOWLEDGEABLE MAN BUT MUCH MORE I WILL HONOR A MAN WITH LITTLE KNOWLEDGE WHO APPLIED IT AND BUILT SOMETHING.
I finally returned and concluded that to be a DOER OF THE LITTLE YOU KNOW IS BETTER THAN BEING AN ABUNDANT KNOWER WHO DOES NOTHING WITH ALL THEY KNOW.
What then shall you do after this letter to self. You will get knowledge but you will also get wisdom and with all thy getting you will get understanding. And above all, you will apply your knowledge in love so your knowledge will build and not discourage and demean.
Choolwe above all you will respect the one who knows so little yet has built something with the little they know. You will use your knowledge to encourage them to do more and not to criticize in a nonconstructive way.
